    Description

Please note: Because of the spacing variations, you MUST CONTACT US at the time of purchase with screw-spacing
information about your 4001 bass. Ebay requires we ship within 24 hours. Without your information, we'll need to
cancel your order and have you re-order when the information is available. Sorry, it's not the way we conduct business directly, but here it's ebay's rules.  PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING FOR FIT INFORMATION.
This listing is for the our 4001 Edition in Black, which fits
the 1978 and newer Ric 4001 bass
    .
If you have a 1974 or older one, or one made between 1975 and 1978, please see below on how to check for which Zero-Mod model you need for correct fit.
Please see our other listings for this 4001 edition in Clear and our other versions for Rickenbacker.
    -------------------------
    OK,  So What Is It?
A custom thumb rest for the Rickenbacker 4001 bass requiring
ZERO modifications to install on your bass! No New Holes!
    The
    4001 model
    and
    4003 model
are each custom made for that bass. They are very close, but not interchangeable.
All models MUST use the appropriate version - See notes below.
If you are a finger-style player with a Rickenbacker 4001 or 4003, you know  there is no really good place to
"hang your thumb" - You see many Rics with a wear spot at the corner of the pickguard,  where players try to
"dig in", and many Rics with the chrome cover removed from the bridge pickup to allow finger style access.
I designed this for my own Ric as I wanted to make it more comfortable to play and keep the "cover on"
as the classic look that is a big part of this bass for many Ric fans.
This thumb rest is made out of one quarter inch thick high quality acrylic,
and precision CNC made in a machine shop here in the USA
    .
    The position and design mean
NO NEW HOLES in your bass!
Includes two pick guard screws that are slightly longer than the stock Ric screws,
so you do not even change the screw holes by adding this on.
It is invisible on a black guard from a few feet away.
    RIC PARTICULARS
    :
Due to variations in models and years and the EXACT FIT these are made to,
it is not possible to offer a "one size fits all" version.
(Believe me, it would make our lives easier!)
    This 4001 model
, fits the 1975 and onward 4001 bass.  As a rule not for 1974 and earlier.
The transition went across the model years -1975 through 1978 - so you need to measure to verify it's 85mm.
Alternate method:  What has proven true in all but one instance we've seen, is checking the neck pickup distance from the base of the neck:
If the neck pickup is about an inch from the fingerboard, this 4001 unit will fit.
If your 4001 has the neck pickup close (about 1/2 inch) from the fingerboard, you will likely need our 4001vtg87 (
    87mm)
model -- same price, send us a message to let us know that's the one you need
    !
(That's only true for straight 4001's, not 4001S or any of the specialty versions. They weren't always consistent in the early years, so you MUST get out your ruler for those!)
    Will it Fit?  Best Method
    -  measure the distance between the two screws  - (SCREW-CENTER  to SCREW-CENTER)
    - the ones above the neck pickup that you would use to mount the thumb rest.
85mm is a newer style 4001, and 87mm is the older style 4001 and some of the custom models.
YOU MUST LET US KNOW WHICH VERSION YOU HAVE.
THESE ARE PRECISION FIT, SO 2mm MATTERS.
84mm is a regular 4003 made in or before 2015  (AVAILABLE IN A DIFFERENT EBAY AD -- LOOK FOR ZERO-MOD 4003)
    If your Ric is a 4003 made after 2015, or a late 2014 4003W,  and measures 85mm, it takes a 4003v2 rest.
    The 4001S bass
is yet again different - on more recent ones,  the standard 4001 model FITS,
others require the 90mm special order version I do have available - contact us about it!.
    The
    4001C64
edition - Special order - contact us for price and availability before buying!
    The
    4001V63 edition -
    Special order
    - contact us for price and availability before buying!
I may request you send a cell phone pic of your bass to verify version and fit.
Take the pic dead on - over the neck pickup - from about 2 feet away.
    Note about Rickenbacker Copies:
We have a few ZM-4001's out on Tokai Ric copies now and they fit well, but the Greco copy Ric's appear have different screw spacing.  Contact us about those and we may be able to modify one of our rests for you.
The current Ric copies seem to take our standard 4003 rests, but again, those require measuring the screw span to be certain of a fit.
    PLEASE feel FREE
to contact us about your Ric before ordering!!!
